Wakerley is a small village situated in the picturesque Welland Valley on the borders of Northamptonshire and Rutland.  Close by are the towns of Stamford, Oakham and Uppingham.

Stamford, (8 miles away) is considered one fo the finest stone towns in England’s, built in beautiful Lincolnshire limestone.  It is a favourite film location, used recently in Pride and Prejudice and the Da Vinci Code and was also the setting for the TV series Middlemarch.  Built on the Old Great North Road, Stamford has been a important resting place for travellers for over 1000 years.  Its historic  town centre boasts a wealth of visitor attractions, shops, pubs and restaurants.  Just outside Stamford stands Burghley House, one of the largest and grandest houses of the Elizabethan age and home of the annual Landrover Burghley Horse Trials.

Uppingham (7 miles away) and Oakham (12 miles away) are also close by.  These attractive market towns are packed with heritage and are home to a wealth of art galleries, speciality shops and eateries.

Rutland Water is four miles away.  Set in 4,200 acres of open countryside, this huge reservoir and nature reserve is the central rural attraction in England’s smallest county of Rutland and offers activities for all the family. Bird-watching  fishing, water-sports  cycling and rock climbing are all available or you could just take a walk and stop in one of the lakeside cafes.  Local golf courses include Luffenham Heath, an Open qualifying course for 2013.

The city of Peterborough is 16 miles away and has all the amenities of a modern city: shopping centres, theatre, cinema, sports facilities (including an ice skating rink and greyhound track) as as well as a wealth of history and a magnificent cathedral.  From Peterbororugh you can access the East Coast Mainline and direct train links to London and the North, including the cities of York, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
